Phoenix Dynasty: Konquest of Arcadia
With 10 Evolution Championships under the belt of Empire Arcadia; Perfect Legend, KDZ, Link RKC, Tom Brady, Luis Cha and Black Mamba enter Evolution 2012 looking to add another Evolution World Fighting Game Championship to the Dynasty of Empire Arcadia. Since 2003 Empire Arcadia has had a strong presence in the Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom franchises. In 2010 the Empire’s presence has deteriorated due to a fall out of players. Sanford Kelly and IFC Yipes both placed 2nd and 4th in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 whereas Darryl Lewis also known as Snake Eyez won Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD Remix. That was the last Capcom franchise game that Empire Arcadia would win at Evo to date.
Since that time Empire Arcadia has fell into the top 32 slot for Street Fighter 4. The last time Empire Arcadia placed top 5 in the Street Fighter 4 Franchise was in 2009 where former member Justin “Marvelous” Wong took 2nd and his EMP teammate Sanford “Santhrax” Kelly took 4th. In 2011 Sanford place 9th in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which has been the best the Empire could do in the Capcom Franchise. The Empire has since then turned to its 2006 Evo champion, Perfect Legend; to continue its winning tradition.
Lead by Perfect Legend, the Empire has taken on a different set of games by different franchises outside of Capcom. Empire Arcadia focused on Mortal Kombat 9, Soul Calibur V and King of Fighters 13. Despite taking top 16 in Soul Calibur V but losing in pools in King of Fighters 13, the Empire’s last chance at keeping their Evolution winning tradition alive rest in the hands of a small platoon of fighters in Mortal Kombat 9. Tom Brady, Perfect Legend, Reo, Maxter and Detroit Ballin all entered the competition looking to bring home the gold for EMP.
The Mortal Kombat battles were intense and in the end only the 2011 world champion Perfect Legend stood face to face with the people’s champion vVv CD Jr. With Perfect Legend already set in the Grand Finals, he had the advantage to press CDJr. for the win. In championship form, Perfect Legend defeated CDJr. to win his second consecutive Evo Mortal Kombat World Championship. This brings Empire Arcadia to its 11th Evolution World Fighting Game Championship in 10 years. Statistically that is a World Championship for every year for 10 years plus one. Congratulations Carl “Perfect Legend” White and all other members of Empire Arcadia that served at the Evo World Fighting Game Championship Series for 2012.
